Lumbar Disc Prolapse is one of the commonest spinal problems. It is a common cause of acute severe leg pain that radiates down the leg. It can cause leg pain, decrease the feeling in the leg and cause some weakness in the foot and toes. For the vast majority of patients the pain resolves quickly within weeks and only needs to be treated with pain killers. If after 6 weeks the pain is still a problem then it is appropriate to consider surgery to remove the disc prolapse.
